The Association of Affiliates (AOA) is organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes as may qualify it for exemption from United States income tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code as amended. More specifically, its mission and these purposes include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) The Association of Affiliates mission is compatible with and supports the mission of Pacifica Foundation, as understood to mean:
Promotion of full distribution of public information, access to sources of news not commonly brought together; presentation of varied sources for accurate, objective, comprehensive news on all matters vitally affecting the community.
- Education and promotion of communication and lasting understanding between nations, races, nationalities, creeds, religions, orientations, special needs, and cultures.
- Contributing to the democratic process through public discourse.
- Promotion and aid of creative activities to serve the cultural welfare of community.
- Making community radio as self-sustaining as possible, un-beholden to commercial or governmental interests.
- Protection and support for mass media as a public trust for encouraging and providing outlets for the creative skills and energies of the community.
- The Association of Affiliates mission is to sustain and further the field of grassroots community radio through Pacifica Affiliates Network activities as are seen fit by its participants.
(2) To facilitate cooperation and communication between the qualified non-profit educational affiliates of the Pacifica Affiliate Network, a part of the Pacifica National Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit educational corporation, and to support the non-profit educational activities of those affiliates or successor affiliate networks.
(3) The Association of Affiliates mission is to seat at least 1 individual at the Pacifica National Board, to represent and communicate interests and concerns of Pacifica’s Affiliate Network members and support the operation of the Affiliate Network Department of Pacifica Foundation.
The Association of Affiliates shall facilitate the election or nomination of representatives to Pacifica National Foundation and engage in other permitted non-profit activities in cooperation with the Pacifica National Foundation.
(4) Engaging in the funding for and the creation of, non-profit educational media, including activities of training and distribution.
(5) In the event of the that the Pacifica Foundation no longer exists, and/or ends or does not maintain an Affiliates Network, the Association of Affiliates may exercise all such powers as are allowed under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code to maintain its own network of affiliated radio stations.
